11 of the Best Things About October

It’s that time of the year again. The time of the year that some people would argue is the most wonderful time of the year (LOL no that’s Christmas), but it’s pretty awesome no matter where you stand. How? Besides the fact that Halloween is this month, we’ve rounded up a few more reasons.

To start, if you haven’t seen this picture of Sigourney Weaver posing with a pumpkin, here you go.

JK, these are the things that are best about October:

1. Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The most important thing that happens in October is the effort to raise awareness to something that affects 1 in 3 women in the US, plus their friends and loved ones. Support the cause here.

2. Costumes
Oh man, time to get creative and let your freak flag fly without anyone judging. Are you really into Battlestar Galactica but you’ve been suppressing that for a while? This is your time to let it out and dress as a Cylon (I realize a select few might get this). Or if you’re a momma, you get to dress your kids in the most adorable costumes. And by kids, I also mean dogs.

3. Pumpkins (and yes, pumpkin spice things)
Pumpkin patches and jack-o-lanterns? Sign us up. Pumpkin spice lattes? Sure. Pumpkin spice macaroni? Pumpkin spice salsa? Pumpkin spice gouda cheese? Nah, we’re actually good on those. Thanks.

4. The weather changing, eventually
One of these days, WE WILL WEAR A SWEATER. Until then, we have to hold onto the knowledge that the weather usually cools down this month….right?

5. The thrill of being scared?
Like why do we put ourselves through the torture of watching scary movies and going to haunted houses? Peer pressure for one, but some claim there is a special kind of adrenaline rush. Others would claim that it separates the boys from the men.

6. And, speaking of which, looking at these haunted house pictures might be your new fave tradition
Each year, Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagra Falls, Canada have silenced all master pranksters by planting a camera in the haunted house and rigging it to snap at a particularly scary moment. Buzzfeed rounded up some of the best examples. We are not worthy, Nightmares Fear Factory. #prankgoals

7. All of the pranks
As we are working on our prank goals, these pranks will just have to do. It’s the one time of the year where you have understood and unsolicited permission to scare the pants off of everyone. Don’t take it lightly.

8. All the candles
Stay away from Bath & Body Works: you will come home with three three-wicked ‘Leaves’ candles and you might get into trouble. But if you have that self-control thing when it comes to candles, DO IT.

9. All the apples
Not only are apples delicious and in season, but they give us fiber, flavonoids, and antioxidants. But if you want to put them in a pie, we won’t judge.

10. Hocus Pocus showing all of the time on TV
If you think that too much of the Sanderson sisters is a thing, you are very, very wrong. Freeform knows what’s up because they are showing Hocus Pocus all. freaking. day. on all Hallow’s Eve.

11. It means we are closer to Christmas
But, by golly, let’s not forget Thanksgiving.
